It's been a while since I've posted anything substantial here (aside from updating the Melee Immunity post), and for good reason. I've been hard at work building a spreadsheet to answer a lot of questions asked in the Monk discord (link to the side). Now, this spreadsheet is fairly comprehensive, predominately answering all gearing questions you may have.
Link to the spreadsheet.
The spreadsheet itself can be divided into a few sections on what it's used for: Stat Weights and Gearing Comparison, Relic Selection, and Trinket Selection.
For all of this spreadsheet, a few basic things must be done.
First off, make a copy of the sheet in your Google Drive (File -> Make a Copy). Now that you have a copy you can edit, in order not to break anything, don't edit any cell that isn't orange. Those are fair game (and usually have a drop down menu).
Now that you can edit it, you'll need to enter your character's unbuffed stats. To find the actual ratings, and not percents, mouseover the stats in your character panel, or copy them from the Armory. After that, a few more things need to be selected; your character's race, talents (as long as they're implemented), any active tier bonuses or unique items, Sheilun, Staff of the Mists info, and Consumables used (if any).
Some more advanced options include how effective you are at cycling Vivify and Enveloping Mist for Lifecycles, how many stacks you'll typically use Sheilun's Gift at, and the overhealing of Leech.
For the Healing Type block, you can leave it as Default Healing, unless you're looking how to gear for a very specific type of healing.
From all of that info, a lot can be learned.
Stat Weights and Gearing
Right in the center of the main page of the spreadsheet is the Stat Weights block. The numbers within tell the weight of all stats that affect healing, based on your current gear. The higher the number, the more healing you'll gain per point of that secondary stat. Using these weights, an Item Comparison block has been made to easily compare two pieces of gear in the same slot. Simply remove that piece of armor, reenter stat ratings, and put in the stats of both items in the Item Comparison block.
For deciding between relics, make sure all stats and Sheilun, Staff of the Mists's item level is updated, and refer to the Artifact Traits vs. Weapon iLvL block. As Sheilun, Staff of the Mists gets higher and higher in item level, the raw stat gain from it outweighs the rule of thumb laid out in my Relics post from a few months ago.
Note that the relic's item level gain is referring to the item level gain that Sheilun, Staff of the Mists will gain, not how many item levels the relics themselves have over one another.
The Trinket Comparison block works much in the same way the Item Comparison block works. Remove the trinket you currently have equipped (and want to see how the new one stacks up against it) and enter in your unbuffed stat ratings. Using either the drop down menus or manually typing in the trinket until the menu is narrowed down, enter in the item levels for both and if it has a socket or Leech on it. Compare the Value of each after all that is said and done.
To get a rough idea of where trinkets lay, go to the Trinkets tab of the spreadsheet. There, you will see a list of trinkets ranked by their value at 925 item level, based on healing gained. Each trinket is broken down into 15 item level increments to see how they scale with item level. This graph updates dynamically with your stat weights and will give you an idea of what to aim for from bosses.
